Moodboard / Feedback

When Vicki looked at my mood board she said that the images did show the iconography of soul music, the colour theme mostly white, black and red also represented the genre of music. Adding a picture of the original artist makes the audience know about what type of music it is. Although she said that the font on the picture of the guitar doesn't necessarily go with the genre of the music. i explained to her about why i used the image of the silhouetted image of a man with afro and she thought it goes well to represent the style of music. She also commented that the mood board represents the target audience who are teenagers to young adults, the colours are vibrant and the image of the artist Adele whose usual audience are the same as our artists. She said the background image of tattoos everywhere also goes very well because it is often young people who often get tattoos and it goes well with the genre because of the

The reply i received from the mail daemon

I sent an email to Amy Winehouse record label Universal at contact@umusic.com.  When i received an email saying the inbox of the receiver was too full i decided to find a more specific source to email my request to. I found this by visiting a website (www.hitquarters.com) which provides contact details of managers, producers, Co Presidents of the music label the artist is signed to. I found the contact detail for Co President Darcus Beese  email: demosuk@umusic.com.

Music video analysis

Research into the music industry

Research Into Music Industries

Selecting an artist & SWOT Analysis

In the first few lessons for the production of the portfolio we drew up a list of the different music genres and sub genres that are around, this helped us to get an idea how many there are available. We also discussed a number of artists in the different genres and how they are represented in the music industry.
The teacher allocated us into random groups of 4 or 5.
My group decided to do "To know him is to love him" By "Amy Winehouse". We selected this song because it is not the usual pop music we listen to regularly. This means we would be producing the video with a fresh eye.
We also did a SWOT analysis of our artist where we analysed the strengths, weaknesses, oppurtunities and threats to our artist this will give us an idea how to market our star to our target audience.

Promotional package research

As part of my A2 Media coursework, I will be working to produce a promotional package
for an album, it would include music video, a digipak and a webpage.
I will use my blog to record details of my research, planning and the evaluation of my work.

Music videos are used to promote and sell a song and the artist to the viewers. Music videos are now crucial to the success of a song more than the advertising campaign. However, 10 years ago the music industry and artists were able to earn money more through the record sales. The music videos were also used for the same purpose, but the standards were not as high. Today, the development of new technology has caused the music industry to strongly decline in music sales. People no longer buy music anymore, as we are able to download albums or single tracks directly from our computer or from our smartphones easily. Most of which is done illegally. YouTube is now one of the main media used today. Therefore, the need to attract viewers through music videos has largely increased. In order to do so, artists are now having to mix different genres and play with conventions in order to create a unique video that will attract and entertain the viewers.
Digi-pak A digipak is a cardboard CD packaging, which can flip like a book (in the case of a two-parts digipak) or open in two parts (one to the left, the other to the right for three-parts digipaks). They are usually used so that the artist stands out on the shelves, but also to add value to their product. It plays with our love for music, and is seen as something extra for the fans. The importance of packaging in the music industry has significantly increased. Since music is available to download on the Internet, the different products of an artist will face a much wider competition (it won't be limited by the size of a shelf in HMV!). Therefore, it is very important for the artist to stand out from the crowd.

Webpages are also becoming very important in the music industries today because of the use of internet. The world as we now know it is becoming technological and everything we need can all be in one. People hardly ever have to do extreme research in order to find out information about their favourite artists or song. The websites are created for artists and designed according to the iconography of the artist or group. This is important as if the webpage is deemed entertaining by the viewers, it could increase the amount of fame for the artist.
